[October 31, 2011]  For the second year in a row, the Lincoln College mens soccer team beat Illinois Central College in the Region 24 tournament championship. The Lynx are off to the district final once again and one step closer to another NJCAA national tournament. Lincoln is currently ranked No. 13 in the nation in the latest NJCAA poll.

The Lynx won the Region 24 tournament final 4-3 on Saturday.

Lincoln opened the scoring in the fourth minute of the match when Edwin Moalosi crossed a ball to Junior Milien, who hit a left-footed volley to far post. The game would stay 1-0 all the way to the halftime mark, with both teams getting quality chances but neither being able to capitalize.

The start of the second half saw Lincoln score in the second minute of play when Anders Fegri hit a left-footed shot around an outstretched keeper on a corner kick. ICC would later score on a set piece from outside the box. However, Lincoln didn't let it slow them down, as they got back on the scoreboard a few minutes later when Edwin Moalosi found a wide-open net on a counterattack after dribbling past the keeper. Lincoln would get their fourth goal from Julio Velasquez when he whipped a corner kick into far post.

With four minutes left, it looked like a win was in the bag for the Lynx, when ICC scored on a long shot from 30 out. ICC would keep the pressure on and score their third goal with 1:27 left in the match.

The Lynx were able to hold them off to win back-to-back regional championships, going 11-0 in region play and undefeated the past two seasons in region play.

Also, for the second season in a row, head coach Ben Massena was named Region 24 Coach of the Year.

Lincoln travels to take on MCC Maple Woods in Kansas City for the district final. The winner of the district final advances to the national tournament in Phoenix, Ariz.
