[October 31, 2011]  (AP)  Clearer and calmer weather is anticipated in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic on Monday as high pressure returns to the Appalachians. Temperatures in these regions will continue to rebound to warmer values throughout the day and should return to seasonal values by Tuesday.

In the Midwest, a disturbance in the upper Mississippi Valley will advance eastward through the upper Great Lakes and the Ohio Valley. Areas of light to moderate rain showers will develop ahead of this system throughout parts of the Great Lakes and the Ohio Valley. As this system progresses eastward, high pressure over the eastern Appalachians will lift northeastward toward the Canada Maritimes on Monday evening. This exiting system will allow rain to form along the Mid-Atlantic Coast during the evening.

Elsewhere in the East, overcast skies with embedded showers will persist in parts of southern Florida, due to tropical moisture.

In the West, a cold front will move across the northern Intermountain West and spread showers with high-elevation snow through the Northwest.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday have ranged from a morning low of 12 degrees at Mount Washington, N.H., to a high of 84 degrees at Ramona, Calif.
