[September 01, 2011]  Because of the donations and efforts of many individuals, organizations and businesses, Land of Lincoln Honor Flight will take 82 more World War II veterans to Washington, D.C., on Sept. 13 to see the World War II Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, National Air and Space Museum, and other memorials. These veterans will be accompanied by seventy-nine guardians who are responsible for the veterans' comfort and safety.

Logan County veterans who will be taking the trip are Tom Evans of Atlanta, Ernest E. Byrne of Chestnut, Dwain Marten of Chestnut, Hubert D. Stoll of Chestnut, Robert Deane Bishop of Lincoln, Harold E. Donnan of Lincoln, Leonard R. Lehner of Lincoln and Howard W. Zook of Lincoln.

The public is invited to a "welcome home" ceremony for these veterans when the plane arrives back at the Springfield Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport at 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 13. Wear red, white and blue to show your appreciation.

Applications are still being accepted from World War II and Korean veterans. Names continue to be added to the waiting list, which currently numbers 215 WWII veterans and 121 Korean veterans.

The last flight for 2011 will take 84 more WWII veterans to Washington on Oct. 11. When flights resume in the spring, they will take WWII veterans, followed by Korean veterans.
The Land of Lincoln Honor Flight board welcomes the chance to speak to organizations, businesses, churches, conventions or others groups about their mission, future flights, guardian duties, fundraising and donations.
