[September 02, 2011]  Abraham Lincoln Healthcare Foundation is seeking members for its new Healing Life Society, a unique organization that helps support the upkeep of the gardens at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital and the Service of Remembrance.

This year, ALMH will begin hosting a Service of Remembrance for those who have died at the hospital in the last year. The pastoral care department will have a brief, comforting ceremony with readings, music, prayers, tributes and a butterfly release.

The Service of Remembrance, which will be an annual ceremony, is made possible through Healing Life Society memberships, which are sold by the foundation for $100 annually or $1,000 for a lifetime membership.

Besides supporting this special event, the Healing Life Society provides for some of the upkeep of gardens around ALMH and new plantings. The Service of Remembrance will include the planting of a new bush or tree each year.

The Healing Life Society Garden Party, an annual event for members, will be on Sept. 18 at ALMH. The ALMH Auxiliary is a sponsor of this year’s event. Commemorative bricks from the old hospital may be purchased during the party.

The new hospital, situated on 60 acres just west of Lincoln Parkway, is surrounded by landscaping, perennials, annuals, evergreen shrubs, grasses and trees. There are many benches, walkways and patios for patients to retreat to for reflection in moments of pain, stress or sadness.
