 As part of the Office of the Comptroller's "Scout Day" at the
Illinois State Fair in Springfield, Topinka presented Scouts from
throughout the state with proclamations celebrating their
achievements and continuing dedication. Topinka specifically
congratulated Abigail from the Lincoln Girl Scouts.Abigail
recently received the Girl Scouts of America Bronze Cross. She saved
her family's lives after a fire broke out in the middle of the night
in the attic of her home. Abigail stayed calm during the situation,
grabbed her little sister to ensure her safety, and then began
screaming to wake her parents and get them out of the house.
"Abigail demonstrated an act of heroism that she clearly was
prepared for," Topinka said. "I proudly salute young women like
Abigail, and I thank Girl Scout Troop 6298 for teaching her the
importance of always being prepared."

confidence and character and provides the foundation for sound
