Marc Short named to Illinois 4-H Hall of Fame

[September 07, 2011]  URBANA -- The seventh and largest class of Illinois 4-H Hall of Fame inductees was recognized on Aug. 13 during the 4-H Family Event at the Illinois State Fair. Marc Short, of Lincoln, a longtime 4-H volunteer, was selected from Logan County.

The Illinois 4-H Foundation established its statewide Hall of Fame in 2005 to honor and celebrate extraordinary 4-H alumni, volunteers and former 4-H staff. Nominations for the Illinois 4-H Hall of Fame are made by University of Illinois Extension staff.

Together, the 52 members of the Hall of Fame's Class of 2011 have been involved with 4-H as members and 4-H club leaders for more than 1,118 years. Each honoree is from a different Illinois county.

Following is the Illinois 4-H Hall of Fame Class of 2011 and their affiliation with 4-H:

  • Steve Austin of Mount Vernon, Marion County, 10-year member, 10-year leader

  • Charlene Bandy of Moro, Madison County, 11-year member, 24-year leader

  • Janice Blanchette of Bourbonnais, Kankakee County, 12-year member, 33-year leader

  • Esther Buitt of Murphysboro, Jackson County, 10-year member, 28-year leader

  • Hazel Clark of McLeansboro, Hamilton County, five-year member, six-year leader

  • Kathy Colbrese of Viola, Rock Island County, 28-year leader, longtime volunteer

  • Bob Duzan of Flat Rock, Crawford County, 10-year member, five-year leader

  • Stanley Eden of Oregon, Ogle County, longtime volunteer

  • Jennifer Elledge of Paris, Edgar County, 11-year member, 12-year leader

  • Ron Gibbs of Ewing, Franklin County, 13-year leader, longtime volunteer

  • Linda Glick of Shelbyville, Shelby County, 10-year member, 31-year leader

  • Richard Hahn of Minonk, Marshall County, eight-year member, 27-year leader

  • Janet Hall of Monmouth, Warren County, 4-H member, 10-year leader

  • Tamara Halterman of Dwight, Grundy County, eight-year member, 12-year leader

  • Beverly Haselhorst of Freeport, Stephenson County, nine-year member, longtime volunteer

  • Joyce Huelsmann of Trenton, Clinton County, 40-year leader, longtime volunteer

  • Karen Hutchens of Marshall, Clark County, 10-year member, 21-year leader

  • Deborah Werner of Manhattan, Will County, 12-year leader, longtime volunteer

  • Joseph White of Elburn, Kane County, 10-year member, 14-year volunteer

  • Wanda Williams of Canton, Fulton County, 52-year leader, longtime volunteer

  • Mildred Wills of Saybrook, McLean County, longtime volunteer

Each inductee received a commemorative Hall of Fame medallion and will be added to the virtual 4-H Hall of Fame listing at http://4hfoundation.illinois.edu/hall_of_fame.

"These individuals have done so much for our Illinois 4-H Youth Development program," said Angie Barnard, director of the Illinois 4-H Foundation. "Their endless devotion to the 4-H youth and this program is invaluable! We are pleased to be able to pay tribute to their legacy for future generations to learn from."

The Illinois 4-H Foundation raises private funds that are invested in Illinois 4-H programs that provide meaningful, positive development experiences for Illinois youth to develop their leadership, citizenship and life skills.
