[September 15, 2011]  SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois communities with Lincoln heritage are invited to a Sept. 20 workshop to help determine how that heritage is promoted to visitors in the coming years.

The workshop will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Foundation Hall at the Old State Capitol State Historic Site in downtown Springfield. It is hosted by the Looking for Lincoln Heritage Coalition, and will involve Heritage Area Community Working Group representatives who will discuss ideas for the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area management plan. Communities that have not formed working groups are also encouraged to attend and become involved in promoting their Lincoln heritage.

The management plan outlines the general approach that will be taken toward community revitalization, enhancement and promotion in the 42 counties making up the Abraham Lincoln National Heritage Area. Communities are encouraged to attend the workshop to discuss their ideas and learn what their role can be in the National Heritage Area. Materials and updates on the area plan can also be reviewed and commented on at www.lookingforlincoln.com.
