[September 19, 2011]  The public is invited to celebrate Alzheimer's Awareness Day at The Christian Village on Wednesday with a balloon launch and a lunch to raise funds for Alzheimer's research.

Participants are encouraged to wear purple as part of the nationwide awareness day. Purple balloons will be released at 10:30 a.m. in front of the memory care unit at The Christian Village, on Postville Drive. Afterward, walking tacos will be sold to raise funds for research to end Alzheimer's.

The memory care unit provides a safe, comfortable haven for residents who have Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia. They're treated with compassion and respect in a structured environment that meets their needs.

The staff enriches the residents' lives by helping them maintain their lifestyles and abilities. Staff members work closely with the residents' families to uncover special interests and hobbies that can be incorporated into the daily activities.

The Christian Village is among the 14 senior living communities of Christian Homes, the second-largest not-for-profit long-term health care provider in the U.S., with campuses in Indiana, Illinois, Iowa and Missouri.
