[September 20, 2011]  The Lincoln Woman's Club is once again a part of the Socks for Troops campaign. They have made 90 socks to be filled with personal items, as well as 450 personal messages on cards. They have also collected 200 Beanie Babies: a new item for the troops to pass out to children.

The club appreciates the past support of the Logan County community and asks for it again this year.

The club will collect items on Sept. 28 at the Woman's Club Building, 230 N. McLean St. in Lincoln, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Items needed for the socks:

  • Individual cold drink packets

  • Hot chocolate packets

  • Beef jerky sticks

  • Granola bars

  • Chewing gum

  • Breath mints

  • Lip balm

  • White or black athletic socks

  • Toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss

  • Hand sanitizer wipes

  • Kleenex packs

  • Lens cleaner

  • Money for postage

Items collected will be delivered to the Farm Bureau office in Bloomington before Oct. 1 to ensure the socks are mailed in time for Christmas.
