[September 20, 2011] (AP) The main weather feature in the country will continue to be a fairly strong front that will move through the eastern third of the nation.

This front will be strong enough to produce widespread rain from the Southeast through the Northeast, but will not be strong enough to instigate any severe weather. The front will move off the Eastern Seaboard in the afternoon and evening, leaving scattered rain and thunderstorms only in the Southeast.

Meanwhile, another storm will move through the northern Plains, pulling cool air into the area while also instigating moderate to occasionally heavy rain in the Dakotas and Minnesota. This storm will also be strong enough to produce periods of strong and potentially damaging winds.

After a period of much-needed rain that did not put very much of a dent in the devastating drought in Texas, the state will dry out once again on Tuesday.

The West will continue to be unseasonably warm due to a high pressure system that will push inland areas into the 90s and 100s. Coastal areas may experience some relief from the heat.

The Northeast will rise into the 60s and 70s, while the Southeast will see temperatures in the 70s, 80s and some 90s. The Southwest will rise into the 90s and 100s, while the Northwest will see temperatures in the 70s and 80s.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Monday ranged from a morning low of 27 degrees at Pinedale, Wyo., to a high of 100 degrees at Gila Bend, Ariz.
