[September 23, 2011]  The Lincoln College men's and women's cross country teams are ranked in the NJCAA polls. The men's team jumps up to fifth in the nation after being ranked 10th last week. The team of Albert Murrey, Luke Padeskey, Taylor Singleton, Logan Volkey, Alek Stojanovic, Syruss Martin and Jose Padillia has already qualified for the national meet based on times.

The women's team enters the polls ranked 25th. Head coach Herron believes "the women will have to continue to be ranked in the top 25 or place first or second at the Region 24 championship to qualify for nationals." He added: "They are currently ranked 25th but have beaten the 12th and 14th teams in the nation."

The women's team has two ladies already qualified for nationals based on qualifying times -- Hannah Singleton and Natalie Hamilton -- and a third who is just two seconds away from getting to nationals.

Herron went on to say: "Our fourth and fifth runners have some work to do, but they have been improving and working extremely hard. I believe that as long as we continue to remain focused and driven, our men's team will have our highest finish ever and that our girls could be a top 20 team."

Both teams still have some meets remaining in October. They will be gearing up for the Region 24 tournament Oct. 27 at Eastern Illinois, where they will be shooting for a regional championship for both teams. Then, it will be off to the NJCAA national championship in Hobbs, N.M., on Nov. 12.
