The oldest trophy in the silent auction was for third place in the
1930 Logan County High School Basketball Tournament. It received one
bid, so for $10 someone is the new owner of an 81-year-old trophy.

Sheri Leesman and Julie Schleder wandered the aisles, "just looking"
at the dates and occasions named on the Hartsburg and Hartem sports
and band memorabilia. The silent auction of old and not-so-old items
enticed a lot of community members and alumni to stop by "just to
			look."

All these shiny trophies were just a fraction of the entire
collection of trophies, banners and plaques available at Saturday's
silent auction. Each item's beginning bid had to be at least $10.

Lawrence and Debra Groth, Emden, placed winning bids for basketball
trophies their son-in-law, Brian Melton, helped win for Hartem High
School from 1985-89. Their daughter, Anna, wanted to surprise him
with the trophies for his 40th birthday. The Meltons live in St.
			Petersburg, Fla.

Sports plaques were left hanging in the overhead space in a hallway
adjoining the gym, and tags marked the ones to be included in the
			silent auction.

Some of the trophies available for bids at Saturday's silent auction
were only a few years younger than the original Hartsburg High
			School, dated 1921. |
