AMD, Nokia, Harleysville are market movers

[September 30, 2011]  NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:

NYSE

  • Advanced Micro Devices Inc., down 84 cents at $5.31

    The chip maker cut its revenue and profit outlook for the third quarter due to manufacturing problems at a German factory.

  • Nokia Corp., up 22 cents at $5.77

    The cellphone maker said it will cut 3,500 jobs and close a Romanian factory by 2012 in order to save costs and restructure.

  • Worthington Industries Inc., up 51 cents at $14.43

    The Columbus, Ohio-based metal manufacturer said that its first-quarter net income rose 15 percent thanks to lower expenses.

  • H&R Block Inc., up 22 cents at $13.73

    The tax preparer said it would end its EXPRESSTAX brand, which helped people file their taxes early and get refunds quickly.

Nasdaq

  • Harleysville Group Inc., up $27.44 at $58.96

    Nationwide Mutual Insurance said it will acquire the insurer for $1.63 billion in cash to expand its presence on the East Coast.

  • Insituform Technologies Inc., up 14 cents at $13.36

    The pipeline repair company cut its 2011 earnings expectations and said it has started a restructuring program to reduce costs.

  • Umpqua Holdings Corp., up 79 cents at $8.90

    The bank holding company, which owns Umpqua Bank and Umpqua Investments, said it will buy back $15 million of its shares.

  • NuVasive Inc., down $1.59 at $18.28

    The medical device company said it will buy intra-operative monitoring provider Impulse Monitoring for $80 million.
