Non-Emergency activities

Fire Inspectors for the Lincoln Fire Department have been preparing for Fire Prevention activities by sending out prevention tours to all the schools.

This year firefighters will be visiting the schools with the Stay Alive House and we will be having a Fire Safety Poster Contest which will be posted weekly by local press agencies.

With the start of school Fire Inspectors have been observing fire drills at the local schools and colleges.

Inspectors also have been busy conducting fire safety inspections and code enforcement in the following businesses: Chester East School, Lincoln Community High School, Bonanza, Auto Zone, Logan County Title, The Bunker, Kroger's, Lincoln College, Big R and IGA,

Emergency Action Plans and site reviews have been conducted at Rail-splitter Vet. Clinic, Thornton's Truck Storage, Kruger Elevator, and Wal-Mart. The Plan reviews help Lincoln Fire Fighters plan for emergencies by identifying closest water supply, entry issues, alarms system familiarization, suppression system identification, occupant loads and fire loads.

Maintenance of the station and apparatus

Maintenance of the station has slowed down. The new Generator is running and operating properly on Saturdays. A cleanup of the Kickapoo building for training room was conducted.

Old Engine #5 the 1924 American LaFrance, is being stored and in view for the public to see at Doolin's storage on North Chicago Street. Patrick Doolin has allowed LFD to place Old #5 and our 1900 hose cart in the windows for public display.

Apparatus maintenance has also slowed down. A warranty leak was fixed on Ladder 5102, several firefighters in house have assisted with minor repairs to air horns and finally the turn signals are working on Engine 5104.

Most repairs this month have been to equipment such as saws, fans, power units for the Jaws of Life.

5103 had to have a battery charger repaired along with new batteries; the charger was a warranty item.

Building markings for search and rescue were conducted and planning for fire fighter rehab were discussed.

EMS training was conducted on care and treatment of sick and injured children and infants.

Lincoln Fire Department policies were reviewed and any changes have been updated.

Night Drills were conducted this month; the drills consisted of generator and supplemental lighting operations. Search and rescue drills in the night time conditions also were conducted.

New Cadet Firefighter Kern had attended an engine company operations class in Galesburg and he was subjected to live fire drills and reported that the class was very beneficial.

Administrative

Lincoln Fire Department was visited by over 40 Chinese students and parents hoping to learn information about Lincoln and services to our community.

Mayor Snyder requested that LFD be part of the tour that stopped and checked out City Hall, The Mayor's Office and LFD.

The Chamber After Hours and Art Show was also a big success for the Lincoln Fire Department, we were able to show our pride with recent Fire Department member photos and historic photos were on display for all to view.
