[April 06, 2012]  There will be a small ceremony at Postville Park in Lincoln on Monday at 5:30 p.m. for the burial of the broken pieces of the old Civil War statue that the wind blew down at the end of December 2008. This old Civil War monument was dedicated on June 10, 1869. The new bronze statue was dedicated a year ago, on April 9, 2011.

Plans are now being made by the same committee to erect a bronze statue of Abraham Lincoln on the west side of the courthouse grounds. Lincoln spoke to a crowd of over 5,000 people in front of the 1857 Logan County Courthouse on Oct. 16, 1858.

The first meeting of the Abraham Lincoln statue committee will be on April 17 at 7 p.m. at the Logan County Genealogical & Historical Society Center, 114 N. Chicago St. in Lincoln.
