[April 09, 2012]  MADRID (AP) -- A police spokesman says four people have died in a fire that destroyed a makeshift hut in which they were living in Spain's northeastern city of Barcelona.

The spokesman said three men and a woman died in the blaze that started before dawn Monday. The official was speaking condition of anonymity in line with police regulations.

The wooden hut was located in a vacant lot on Bilbao street on the outskirts of the city center.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.

The official had no details on the identities of the four but Spanish National Radio cited police at the scene as saying they were Romanians.
