Ernest 'Ernie' Edwards Jr.

[April 12, 2012]  BROADWELL -- Ernest "Ernie" L. Edwards Jr., 94, of Lincoln, formerly of Broadwell, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at 8:20 p.m. at St. Clara's Manor in Lincoln.

BROADWELL-Ernest "Ernie" L. Edwards, Jr., 94, of Lincoln, formerly of Broadwell, died at St. Clara's Manor, Lincoln, on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at 8:20 p.m.

Ernie was owner and operator of the Pig Hip Restaurant in Broadwell, Illinois.

Ernie was born on August 5, 1917 at Murphysboro, IL the son of Ernest L. and Naomi Meyers Edwards, Sr. He married Loeta; later married Lola; and then married Frances E. Cook on March 17, 1984 in Lincoln. She survives in Lincoln.
Also surviving are three sons: James (Sue) Edwards of Aledo, IL; Rev. Bill (Diane) Edwards of Wright City, MO; Tim (Sue) Edwards of Mackinaw, IL; one stepson: Fred (Sandy) Cook of Lincoln; two stepdaughters: Suzanne (Jim) Cale of Lincoln; Jude (Bob) Harms of Lincoln; one brother: Joseph (Gladys) Edwards of Lincoln; sister: Bonnie (Doc) Welch of Lincoln; three grandchildren; five step grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wives: Loeta and Lola; one sister: Elizabeth, and step son: Paul Rellias.

Ernie was a member of the Route 66 Association; American Legion Post #263; VFW #1756 of Lincoln and the Broadwell Christian Church. He served in the U.S. Army from Dec. 15, 1944 to August 19, 1946 during WWII.

Services for Mr. Edwards will be held at 10 A.M. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Lincoln. Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln with full military rites accorded by Lincoln American Legion Post #263. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 P.M. on Monday April 16 at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Route 66 Association.
