Dr. Michael Sleasman, managing director
and research scholar for the Center for Bioethics and Human Dignity,
will be at Lincoln Christian University on Tuesday. Sleasman will
deliver two presentations addressing emerging technologies -- such
as nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technology and
cognitive sciences -- from within the context of Christian
bioethics. LCU welcomes the public to attend both presentations on
the campus.

Sleasman's first presentation, "Technology, Dispositional Values,
and Virtue: Proposals for Addressing Emerging Technologies in
Bioethics," will be at noon in Restoration Hall, Room R23, as part
of LCU's weekly symposium in theology and philosophy. He will
discuss the notion of value-ladenness in technology within the
philosophy of technology. This presentation seeks to develop the
concept by using Christian virtue traditions to assist in navigating
the complex issues raised by emerging technologies.
A second opportunity to hear Sleasman will be at 7 p.m. in Room
R49 of Restoration Hall. The evening presentation is the third in
the series of bioethics conversations presented this spring by LCU's
School of Adult & Graduate Studies.
Sleasman earned his doctorate in systematic theology from Trinity
Evangelical Divinity School. He also serves on faculty at Lincoln
Christian University for the master's degree program in bioethics,
which offers classes at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. Sleasman
has co-authored and co-edited several publications, including
"Everyday Theology: How to Read Cultural Texts and Interpret Trends"
(Baker Academic, 2007), co-edited with Dr. Kevin Vanhoozer and
Charles Anderson. Additionally, Sleasman has been interviewed on a
range of bioethical issues by media sources such as ABC News Radio,
Atlanta Magazine, Family News in Focus, Medill News, and at the
Christian Medical and Dental Associations 2008 national conference.
