Benz pleads guilty to aggravated criminal sexual abuse

[April 17, 2012]  This publication has received a news release regarding a plea agreement Tuesday for Douglas Benz.

On April 17, 2012, Douglas Benz pleaded guilty to Count VI – Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, a class 2 felony. Pursuant to the plea, Counts I-IV, Criminal Sexual Assault, a class 1 felony, and Count V and VII, Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, a class 2 felony, are dismissed.

Pursuant to the terms of the fully negotiated plea agreement, Douglas Benz is sentenced to six (6) years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and will serve two (2) years of Mandatory Supervised Release. In addition Douglas Benz is fined $5,000.00 and will also pay a $200.00 Sexual Assault fee and a $500.00 Sex Offender fine.

"Give the nature of the charges and the victim's desire to avoid a trial, we believe this is an appropriate resolution," stated Jonathan Wright, First Assistant State's Attorney. Douglas Benz was taken into custody and begins serving the sentence immediately.
