Official police report issued for Tuesday morning crash

[April 18, 2012]  On Tuesday at 2:24 a.m., Jason L. Harris, 30, with two passengers in his vehicle was traveling in the 600 block of Third Street. Harris lost control of his vehicle, going from one side of the street to the other. During the course of the accident the vehicle was airborne on two occasions and also rolled.

Harris was ejected from the vehicle and thrown against a post of a carport.

The 2001 Grand Am traveled through a lawn belonging to Jason W. Snyder and hit the home of Richard W. Altman. Also damaged in the incident was a vehicle owned by Rick E. Whiteman.

Harris was taken to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital by Logan County Paramedics. He was later airlifted to Memorial Hospital in Springfield. As of Wednesday morning no official report was available on his condition.

An Illinois State Police certified crash reconstruction expert was called on to document the scene.

Harris was ticketed for improper lane usage, operating an uninsured vehicle, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving with a suspended license, driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt.
