Peabody Energy, eBay, Great Wolf are market movers

[April 20, 2012]  NEW YORK (AP) -- Stocks that moved substantially or traded heavily Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq Stock Market:

NYSE

Peabody Energy Corp., up $2 at $30.46

The coal company's first-quarter profit fell on weaker U.S. demand for coal, but its results still beat Wall Street's expectations.

Boston Scientific Corp., up 31 cents at $5.85

The maker of medical devices said that its net income leaped in the first quarter compared to the same period a year earlier.

Southwest Airlines Co., up 34 cents at $8.23

The airline said it earned $98 million in the first quarter, helped by deals that were meant to dull the pain of higher jet fuel prices.

Stanley Black & Decker Inc., down $5.58 at $72.91

The maker of tools, locks, fasteners and other hardware products said that its first-quarter profit fell despite higher sales.

Nasdaq

eBay Inc., up $4.75 at $40.62

Thanks to higher revenue from its PayPal business, the e-commerce website said that its first-quarter net income grew 20 percent.

Human Genome Sciences Inc., up $7 at $14.17

The drug developer rejected an unsolicited $2.59 billion takeover bid from GlaxoSmithKline, saying it undervalues the company.

Overstock.com Inc., up 37 cents at $5.90

The Salt Lake City-based online retailer said that it returned to a profit in its fiscal first quarter as its operating expenses dropped.

Great Wolf Resorts Inc., up 26 cents at $7.42

Private equity firm KSL Capital Partners raised its bid for the water park operator again, topping an offer from Apollo Global.
