[April 20, 2012]  WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama is hauling in about $1 million for his campaign and for Democratic Party groups.

The president was fundraising Thursday about a block from the White House, meeting with about two dozen supporters, each of whom paid $40,000.

The gathering is his third fundraiser in two days. Obama raised cash at two campaign events Wednesday in Michigan.

The president's appearance on Thursday was closed to the press.

As in other events, the proceeds of the fundraiser are split between Obama's re-election campaign, the Democratic National Committee and various state party organizations.

As of the end of March, Obama had raised about $350 million for his re-election campaign and the Democratic National Committee so far in this election cycle.
