[April 21, 2012]  SPRINGFIELD -- A special flag retreat ceremony and tours of the Old City Receiving Vault are planned for May 4 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts. A large number of Girl Scouts will be in town to mark the anniversary, and it is anticipated that many will attend.

The old city vault, where Abraham Lincoln's body was placed following his May 1865 funeral and prior to the construction of the Lincoln Tomb, will be open from 3 to 6 p.m. that Friday. A costumed living history presenter will provide information about the arrival of Lincoln's body in Oak Ridge Cemetery 147 years ago.

The interior of the Lincoln Tomb will also stay open until 6 p.m.

A special flag retreat ceremony for the visiting Girl Scouts will begin at 6:30 p.m. The 114th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Infantry, a reactivated Civil War unit, will perform the ceremony, and a flag flown over the tomb during the previous week will be given away to one lucky troop leader.

The ceremonies, while planned for the Girl Scouts, are free and open to the public.

Lincoln Tomb State Historic Site is administered by the Illinois Historic Preservation agency and is located in Springfield's Oak Ridge Cemetery.
