'Native Americans Speak' event Aug. 25 at Chillicothe

[August 08, 2012]  CHILLICOTHE -- This year's "Native Americans Speak" event provides an opportunity for the whole family to learn about Native American culture from American Indian people from a host of different tribes. The event will be on Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Shore Acres Park, Chillicothe.

The activities are presented by the 4 Directions Healing Foundation, a national Native American charitable and educational organization made up of American Indian people from different states and different tribes. The 4DHF organization is based out of Chillicothe.

Aug. 25 schedule:

  • 10-11 a.m. -- Storytelling by Fred Shaw and Jo Lakota

  • 11-11:20 a.m. -- Adam Danner and Lionel Little Eagle

  • 11 a.m.-noon -- Kids' time at a side location

  • 11:20 a.m.-noon -- Lionel Little Eagle with a pipe ceremony and Tom John with a prayer

  • Noon-1 p.m. -- Jamie Russell concert

  • 1-2 p.m. -- Time with our elders: Mel Grey Owl, Randy Tuttle, Gary Billiot and Phyllis John

  • 1-2 p.m. -- Kids' time at a side location

  • 2-3 p.m. -- Drum and dance demonstration with Spirit of the Rainbow Drum, Jimmy Lakota and Dennis Weaver

  • 3-4 p.m. -- Open dancing and mini powwow with Spirit of the Rainbow Drum

  • Phyllis Singing Bird (Mohawk, Seneca) -- 4DHF director
