[August 18, 2012]  McLEAN -- Buzz on over to Sugar Grove Nature Center on Sept. 1 to join the activities as the nature center celebrates hummingbirds, butterflies and bees. Learn from local experts about the important pollinators in Funks Grove by participating in programs, seminars, hikes and more. There will also be entertainment, food and fun. The "Hummingbird Festival & Pollination Celebration" runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free.

Vernon Kleen, from Springfield, is one of the few licensed hummingbird banders in the United States. He is returning for the sixth year of hummingbird banding at the nature center. Visitors will have a chance to feel the heartbeat of a hummingbird and are invited to "adopt" one of these winged wonders.

Wild Birds Unlimited will offer hummingbird seminars, resources and products. Learn all about monarch tagging from McLean County Master Gardeners as well as tips and tricks to attract these beautiful insects to your yard. Honeybee programs, activities for kids and garden tours are also part of the fun.
