| Those present were Robert Farmer, chairman; Andy Anderson; Rick
			Aylesworth; Kevin Bateman; Bill Martin; Pat O'Neill; Gene Rohlfs;
Chuck Ruben; and Jan Schumacher. Guests included Dan and Carol
Tackett, Betsy Pech, and Alana Sorrentino. Lincoln Art &
Balloon Festival Jan Schumacher and Kevin Bateman both referred to the need for
volunteers for the art and balloon fest this weekend. Those interested in volunteering to help with the barbecue
competition can contact Kevin Bateman. As of Tuesday, there will be
45 teams participating in the competition. Bateman said there may
still be a chance the competition will hit the maximum of 50 teams. "We received a third of our teams the last two days of
			registration last year," Bateman said.
The total prize money this year is up to $15,000, and that's all
from local business contributions, Bateman said. There will be a few new vendors this year and a new event. The new event, which is also barbecue-related, is called
"Anything Goes," and the local first responders will be the judges.
The teams will have two rules. The first is that the dish has to be
a kabob of some kind. The second rule is that watermelon must be
present on the tray. The winner will receive $500. "We're taking control of the streets starting Thursday," Bateman
enjoyed saying. The streets of downtown will be blocked off starting
Thursday at 4 p.m.; Broadway, McLean and Pulaski streets will be
closed to traffic. Family Preparedness Day Alana Sorrentino spoke to the board on behalf of the Logan County
Emergency Management Agency. Sorrentino said she has been working
with Shana Bean, emergency response coordinator for the Logan County
Department of Public Health, on an upcoming Family Preparedness Day. The event falls on Sept. 15 and will take place in Scully Park
from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. September is National Preparedness Month.

There will be presentations by the health department, the EMA,
Lincoln fire departments, Logan County Paramedics, local police and
the Red Cross. "They will be promoting what to do in a disaster, how to plan for
a disaster, things you should have and information -- in a fun day,"
said Sorrentino. Admission will be free to the public, and Sorrentino said there
should be vendors as well. Help out with the art and balloon fest What is there to help with?http://www.lincolndailynews.com/images/ads/
