Thursday morning several students from local elementary classrooms were hard at work in downtown Lincoln, putting their artistic stamp on the sidewalks around the square and beyond. As the day progressed, students from other classrooms also came out and contributed to this second year of the sidewalk chalk art project in connection with the annual Lincoln Art & Balloon Festival.

According to Kathy Vinyard of the city of Lincoln, who co-chairs the project with Roy Logan of the park district, more than 20 classrooms signed up to participate this year.

All the art projects were expected to be finished by the end of the day on Thursday, though Vinyard said last year some of them finished under the glow of the streetlights.
