[August 25, 2012]  SPRINGFIELD -- On Sept. 8, the Area Agency on Aging for Lincolnland will host its 10th annual Conference for Caregivers at Northfield Inn, Suites and Conference Center, Springfield, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The conference will be of interest to informal caregivers of older friends or family members and for grandparents or other relatives raising children.

The goal of the conference is to provide practical information that will help caregivers continue to provide quality care to others while maintaining balance in their own lives.

Informal caregivers are unpaid individuals such as family members, friends and neighbors who provide assistance to someone who is to some degree incapacitated and in need of help with tasks such as grocery shopping, bill paying, cooking or personal care. Grandparents or other relatives raising grandchildren have accepted primary responsibility for raising one or more children through age 18.

Experts will present information on such topics as "Challenges to Effective Communication," "Medicaid and Long-Term Care," "Disaster Preparedness," "Understanding Individual Education Plans," and more.

Exhibitors will provide information about services and products that can make caregiving easier. These exhibits will be open to the general public from 8:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Luncheon speaker Bob Stromberg will draw from his unique and uplifting style of comic storytelling to give the group a chance to stop and laugh together while reflecting on the things that really matter.
