[August 29, 2012]  The Illinois Old-Time Fiddlers Association will present the 48th annual State Fiddle Contest on Oct. 21. The event will be in the Thelma Keller Convention Center in Effingham, starting at 1 p.m.

Some well-known fiddlers have won this contest, such as Fay Walls and Alison Krauss. The 2011 state fiddle champion is Charlie Walden of Wilmette.

The reason for the Old-Time Fiddlers Association is to preserve the old-time fiddle music and pass it on to future generations.

If you or someone you know plays a fiddle, join the competition or encourage them to enter. All ages are welcome, and there are four categories to choose from. The association would like to have contestants from all over the state.

Admission is $5 for adults. Children 8 and under are admitted free.
