[August 28, 2012]  DELAVAN -- The Delavan Fall Festival board of directors has named Mary Ruth Lowry as the grand marshal for the festival parade.

This honor is bestowed upon a member of the community each year in recognition of their dedication of time and talent for the good of the community.

Lowry was selected based on a letter nominating her for this honor. The remarks below were taken directly from some of that material and are the basis for her selection.

"Mary Ruth is the Head Librarian for Ayer Public Library." She was described as "happy, cheerful, and always willing to help." "She will deliver books to your home, carry them to your car, help you find a book you are looking for, special order a book and even go on line for information concerning a book or author."

"Mary Ruth has started several Book Clubs; evening book club, early morning book club and young mom's book club. In the summer, the children have a story time called Brown Bag on Blanket."

"She has also started a coffee hour, knit and crochet class in addition to a go to a movie once a month."

Lowry will be recognized and honored at the Delavan Fall Festival and will ride in the festival parade on Monday. She will also participate in various activities around the park throughout the Labor Day weekend.
