[August 28, 2012]  DELAVAN -- During this year's Delavan Fall Festival two important competitive events will return to the schedule.

37th annual 10K race

The 37th annual 10K road race at the festival will take place on Monday. Race time is 8 a.m. Same-day registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and closes at 7:30.

The 6.2-mile course is rolling, out and back, guaranteed to provide a challenge to all. Split times will be available at the turnaround, and there will be a water station at miles two and four.

Illinois Valley Striders will provide the race clock and award tallies. This race is part of the IVS Grand Prix Race Series.

Note that there is no one-mile fun run this year.

There are four runner categories: male and female ages 0-19, male and female ages 20-34, male and female ages 35-49, and male and female age 50 and over.

Awards will go to the overall male and female winners, and medallions will be awarded to the top three finishers in each group, the top three Delavan finishers, and the oldest and youngest finishers.

Refreshments will be served to runners following the race.

Registration forms are available on the fall festival website, www.delavanfallfestival.com, at the city clerk's office and at Ayer Public Library.

Sponsors for the 10K race are First Farmers State Bank, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Culbertson, Country Financial agent Eric Jensen, Hometown Wine & Spirits, Culbertson & Allen, Jerry Shannon Insurance, Railsplitter Wind Energy, Abercrombie Contractors, Casey's, Heartland Bank & Trust, and Delavan Finer Foods.
