Friday morning the first- and second-grade classes at Carroll Catholic School, with a little help from the fifth-graders, several parents and even grandparents, baked pumpkin bread for the upcoming Christmas bazaar.

The students gathered in the school cafeteria and made the small loaves from scratch, using dry ingredients, canned pumpkin, eggs and oil.

The students paired off, an older child with a younger one, with parents and grandparents standing by to help as needed.

The first step was to follow the directions on the recipes. Kids began with dumping their dry ingredients into a large mixing bowl. Those ingredients had been measured out the day before by the first- and second-graders, so that the Friday morning event would go quickly.
