[December 05, 2012]  BLOOMINGTON -- Miller Park Zoo has a busy December planned with multiple holiday special events and a camp during the school winter break.

On Saturday, Dec. 8, the zoo hosts Breakfast with Santa & the Reindeer. The holiday breakfast includes bagels, cereal and fruit, along with an opportunity to visit with and pose for pictures with Santa Claus. Times are 8:30-9:30 a.m. or 10-11 a.m. Guests will also have an opportunity to visit with and learn about the zoo's reindeer, Ealu and Rikka. Preregistration is required; call 309-434-2260.

Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14 and 15, Miller Park Zoo will have rare evening hours, 5:30-8, for the special Wild Lights event. The zoo grounds will be decorated with thousands of luminarias, and guests can participate in winter activities as well as visit with the animals that thrive in cooler weather. Discount tickets are available in advance at the Bloomington and Normal libraries and at the zoo. Zoological Society members also receive discounted tickets at the door.

On Sunday, Dec. 16, Santa and his helpers will run the zoo's reindeers through exercises to see if they are up to joining his sleigh team. The special event called Can Reindeer Fly? will begin at 2 p.m.
