[December 06, 2012]  Bump, set, spike -- it's all about volleyball! It is time for the park district's winter volleyball league registration. Registration and roster information are available at the front desk. All your information needs to be turned in by Dec. 18. All fees will remain the same as they have been for the last several years. This coed noncompetitive league will play on Tuesday evenings, with the first games beginning at 6:30 on Jan. 8. This is a great way to get out of the house and stay active all winter long. If you have any questions, call Roy at 732-8770.

The park district is running an awesome Fit Zone membership offer right now. This applies to members renewing and nonmembers wanting to join. If you renew your membership for a three-month period, you will receive an extra week. Join for a year and you get an extra month. If your membership isn't due until later and you want to take advantage of this offer, the park district will do the appropriate add-on and extend your membership.

As the holidays get closer, we need to remember to stay active. Jacki Pavlik, the personal trainer and fitness director at the park district, offers these five tips to help you stay on track.

  1. Wake up to 15 minutes of calisthenics to spike your heart rate as well as your metabolism.

  2. Completely change your fitness routine during the holidays.

  3. Add an extra set to each exercise to completely shock your body into action.

  4. Take up a new active hobby, like dance, tennis or new weight-lifting exercises.

  5. And last but not least, recruit a holiday fitness buddy to work out with and keep you accountable.
