[December 21, 2012]  SPRINGFIELD -- Springfield Clinic officials announced Monday that Andrea J. McKay of Ashland, Ky., has been named Springfield Clinic's chief operating officer. She was selected following an extensive national search.

McKay has a long history in the health care industry. With more than 20 years in medical practice leadership, her career has taken her to hospitals and health systems throughout the Midwest -- no struggle for the Kokomo, Ind.-raised "lifelong Hoosier."

She most recently served as the vice president and chief operations officer of King's Daughters Integrated Practices, a division of King's Daughters Health System in Kentucky. She was responsible for an integrated physician network of 55 medical practice locations and approximately 600 employees.

"During my first visit to Springfield, I just talked with random people about the health care here. Everyone I spoke with said Springfield Clinic was the best," said Ms. McKay. "I feel honored to be joining such a well-respected team."

McKay graduated cum laude from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind. Since then, she has earned two graduate degrees -- a Master of Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University in 1996, and a 2006 master's degree in organizational management from Bluffton University in Bluffton, Ohio.

In her role as the clinic's chief operating officer, McKay oversees the operations of more than 40 Springfield Clinic facilities and Outreach specialty program locations, as well as the short- and long-range planning, direction and coordination of patient care activities. Additionally, McKay will be responsible for all construction projects, including Springfield Clinic's new medical office buildings in Jacksonville and Springfield, adjacent the Springfield Clinic 1st facility.

"I was really impressed with the spirit of teamwork here," added McKay. "It was the culture of collaboration that distinguished Springfield Clinic from other health care organizations I was considering. I'm thrilled to be part of this team and anxious to become a part of such a great community."
