Patchy freezing drizzle and light snow possible

[December 28, 2012]  The National Weather Service office in Lincoln released the following hazardous weather outlook at 6:10 a.m. Friday for portions of central Illinois. This outlook is for the counties of Cass, Christian, De Witt, Logan, Macon, Menard, Morgan, Sangamon and Scott:

Friday and Friday night

A fast-moving storm system may produce some patchy freezing drizzle this morning, with light snow possible this afternoon and evening. Little to no snow accumulation is expected, although the freezing drizzle may cause some slick patches on area roads.

Saturday through Thursday

Another period of light snow will be possible on Monday and Monday night, with light accumulation possible.

A fast-moving storm system will have two areas of snowfall: one across northern Illinois on Friday, the other across southeast Illinois on Friday night. Areas northwest of the Illinois River will have a better chance of light snow accumulation Friday, with up to a half-inch around Galesburg. Flurries will be possible in most other portions of central Illinois. Late Friday afternoon and Friday night, southeast Illinois will see a stronger wave affect them. Snowfall totals toward Lawrenceville may reach up to 1 to 2 inches, with higher totals of 2-4 inches southeast of there. The remainder of our area may see flurries lingering Friday night, with no accumulation.
