 State Sen. Larry
Bomke, R-Springfield, was among the legislators
present in the House chamber as the governor gave his address.
"The governor's speech had a lot of really good goals in it, but now
it's time to see how we're going to attain those goals," Bomke said.
"We can all agree that creating jobs and boosting our economy are
great things to reach for, but I want to see more specifics on Gov.
Quinn's plans to do this."
Bomke also notes that Illinois' legislative leaders will need to
tackle other difficult issues in 2012 for the state to be able to
right its course.
"In recent years our financial obligations in areas like the
Medicaid system have grown exponentially," he said. "These financial
obligations consume an ever-growing portion of state revenues at a
rate that is completely unsustainable. I would like to know how the
governor plans to address these costs, as well as others that are a
drain on the state budget.
"I hope that the governor is serious about getting Illinois back
on track. If he is sincere, then I am more than willing to work with
Gov. Quinn and my fellow legislators to fix Illinois."
