The welcome sign greeted everyone as they entered the Washington-Monroe gym on Thursday night for the Super Bowl of Chili and Family Reading Night.

Dr. Mary Ahillen, superintendent for District 27, sampled the chili entries as a judge for the competition. She commented that the chili cook-off was a fun addition to the night's activity.

The school provided homemade chili of its own for families to enjoy for supper. Principal Ginger Yeazle received over 200 RSVPs to the event.

Each class at the school created a themed basket for the raffle. Tickets were sold at the door for a nominal amount to give each family a chance to win.

Family Reading Night was extended to include the Super Bowl of Chili with the football theme. Students decorated the halls with cheerleaders and football players like this big guy who directed families to the library.

Lesleigh Bennett and her daughters Peyton (first grade) and Kacey (fifth) visited the library and enjoyed the color pages as much as the books.
