[February 08, 2012]  The first order of business at this week's Lincoln City Council meeting was to swear in a new probationary firefighter for the city fire department.

Chris Perrine began working for the city department on Feb. 1.

Chief Mark Miller introduced Perrine to the council. Perrine has his Firefighter II license with the state and has an EMT license with the Department of Public Health.

He has served as a volunteer firefighter for seven years in his hometown of Arrowsmith, a small community north of Farmer City and east of Bloomington-Normal.

In the gallery to witness Perrine's swearing-in were several fellow firefighters and Perrine's mother, Ronda.

Probationary firefighters maintain that status for one year. If the year is completed successfully, Perrine will be re-sworn as a full-time firefighter with the Lincoln Fire Department.
