The special guest of the day is this elegant
cake, derived from a French chef's recipe and first created for the Todd
family as a sheet cake. It was later transformed into a lovely
layer cake by a White House chef.

prepared for the Marquis de Lafayette when he visited the Todds of
Lexington, Ky. Later it would be used by Mary Todd as she wooed
a proposal out of Abraham Lincoln. |

Samantha Bishop of Hopedale arrives with her
grandmother Chris Huff. The two began their day at Postville
Courthouse, then drove to Mount Pulaski to celebrate Abe's 203rd there
as well.
