[February 11, 2012]  BLOOMINGTON -- Miller Park Zoo is opening registration for one of the most unique programs for young people in central Illinois.

Students who are currently in fifth grade or higher are eligible to begin participating in Miller Park Zoo's Junior Zookeeper program this summer. Junior zookeepers, known as JZKs, have the opportunity to take an active role in the operations of Miller Park Zoo, working with people and animals. Students begin with classroom training and eventually become volunteers. JZKs develop leadership and time-management skills while learning about the way a zoo works.

To receive an application, students and at least one of their parents or guardians must attend an informational meeting on March 5, 6 or 8 from 7 to 8 p.m. at Miller Park Zoo. Reservations are not necessary. There is a registration fee for this program.

Contact Shannon Reedy at 309-434-2256 or sreedy@cityblm.org if you have any questions, or visit www.millerparkzoo.org for more program information.
