Lynx wrestling qualifies 9 for nationals

[February 13, 2012]  RIVER GROVE -- The No. 4-ranked Lincoln College wrestling team competed in the regional tournament this weekend at Triton College in River Grove. Lincoln placed second in the regional, losing to Harper College by three points.

The Lynx had six individual champions out of the 10 weight classes, and Mark Marianovich received the tournament's outstanding wrestler award. Lincoln results are as follows:

  • 125 -- Prentice Thomas*, first

  • 133 -- Anthony Higbee, sixth

  • 141 -- Ethan Raley*, first

  • 149 -- Mark Marianovich*, first

  • 157 -- Mike Togher*, first

  • 165 -- Darnell Thomas*, third

  • 174 -- Steve Burling*, fourth

  • 184 -- Matt Dwyer*, first

  • 197 -- Mike Johnson*, first

  • Hwt -- Gabe Berry*, third

*National qualifier

The national tournament is in Rochester, Minn., on Feb. 24 and 25.

Lincoln coach Steven Bradley said, "This is the time for the team to step up and put all of their hard work into action against the best in the country."
