British boxing investigates Chisora's behavior

[February 20, 2012]  LONDON (AP) -- The British Boxing Board of Control could take action against heavyweight Dereck Chisora after it opened an investigation into his behavior before, during and after his points defeat to WBC champion Vitali Klitschko.

Chisora slapped Klitschko at the weigh-in and spat water in the face of his opponent's brother, Wladimir, before Saturday's bout in Munich. He then brawled with former WBA champion David Haye at the post-fight news conference.

The BBBC says it is investigating Chisora on a misconduct charge "and a further statement will be issued once the stewards have decided on what action will be taken."

The BBBC cannot take action against Haye, who goaded his fellow Briton, because he is officially retired and is not licensed by the body.

BERLIN (AP) -- Wladimir Klitschko wants Dereck Chisora to face the consequences for his "embarrassing and disgraceful" conduct following the British boxer's loss to Klitschko's older brother Vitali on Saturday night.

Klitschko says he is "shocked and deeply embarrassed" by the actions of Chisora and his team before and after his defeat.

Chisora slapped Vitali at the weigh-in and spat water in Wladimir's face before the WBC heavyweight title bout, and then brawled with former WBA champion David Haye at the post-fight news conference.

Klitschko says "these kinds of actions ... must be stopped, otherwise the sport of boxing is going to go down the hill fast."

Chisora and his coach, Don Charles, were questioned by German police Sunday before returning to England. They face possible charges of simple assault.
