Zion Lutheran chess team participates at IESA state tournament

[February 25, 2012]  Five students from Zion Lutheran School in Lincoln participated in the Illinois Elementary School Association State Chess Tournament last weekend at the US Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington. A total of 328 students participated in the state event.

ZLS participants were Michael Newhouse, Drew Simmer, Zack Prather, Joe Ahrends and Nathan Ford.

Results for ZLS team members in their divisions: Zack Prather, sixth out of 28 participants; Nathan Ford, eighth out of 29 participants; Michael Newhouse, 21st out of 50 participants; Joe Ahrends, 24th out of 53 participants; and Drew Simmer, 36th out of 53 participants.

The Eagles' coach is Virgil Lowe.
