HardwareWhile the system will have limited moisture to work with, snow showers are expected to reach into parts of the central Great Basin and the higher elevations of the Sierra Nevadas. As the system reaches into southern California by Monday evening, gusty westerly winds will accompany the system, while rain showers pick up along the southern California coast and snow showers blanket the higher elevations of the region. Mountains and deserts should expect the strongest winds during the afternoon and evening, with gusts around 60 mph. Snow accumulations are expected to range from 3 to 6 inches in the northern mountains and 5 to 9 inches in the southern mountains.

To the east, moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will lift northward, allowing showers and thunderstorms to develop along the western and central Gulf coasts and southern Plains through the day. Meanwhile showers and thunderstorms in Florida will expand to the Southeast coast and the eastern Gulf coast. Northeastern Florida should expect the heaviest amounts of precipitation.

Further north, a storm system will move over the upper Great Lakes, bringing more snow to the northern regions of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Expect snow showers to spread into the Northeast from Monday afternoon into Tuesday.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states Sunday have ranged from a morning low of minus 11 degrees at Mount Washington, N.H., to a high of 82 degrees at Naples, Fla.
