[February 29, 2012]  LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Authorities say an alleged stalker traveled from Belgium to Los Angeles in the hopes of getting close to comedian Esther Povitsky, who has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel's late night television show.

Sheriff's officials said Tuesday that Pierre Van Lint was arrested at a Hollywood hotel after showing up at a comedy theater where Povitsky performs.

The comedian told investigators she had been receiving unsolicited emails from Van Lint for eight months, some of which she described as aggressive and inappropriate. The number of emails increased in the 48 hours prior to his arrest.

Van Lint was booked on stalking charges and held on $50,000 bail.

The 23-year-old Povitsky performs in Los Angeles and has also appeared on the Fox sitcom "New Girl."
