Vivian Nelson

[January 02, 2012]  LINCOLN -- Vivian M. Nelson, 96, of Lincoln, formerly of Galesburg, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 2011, at 3:35 p.m. at The Christian Village Nursing Home.

Visitation in Lincoln will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Jefferson Street Christian Church.

Mrs. Nelson's funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg. Visitation in Galesburg will be at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the service time.

Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg.

Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.

Vivian Marie Nelson was born on Dec. 22, 1915, in Oneida to Charles and Clare Peterson Sloan. She married Mark C. Cooper on June 10, 1936, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 1978. She later married the Rev. Edwin Nelson, and he preceded her in death on April 30, 2003.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by one daughter, Patricia (and Raymond) Nobbe of Lincoln; a stepson, Myron (and Pauline) Nelson of Seminole, Ala.; her grandchildren, Pamela (and Steve) Schreiner, Bobbi (and Mark) Graue, Dr. R. Todd (and Chris) Nobbe, Natalie (and Mark) Mussselman, Larry (and Nadine) Elander; four stepgrandchildren; one nephew, Ron (and Kathy) Cooper; and 11 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Katrina, Garrett Schreiner, Derek and Patrick Graue, Emma and Kathryn Nobbe, Christa and Emily Musselman, J.T. and C.J. Elander .

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Joan Elander; one sister, Betty Bacon; one brother, Dewitt Sloan; and a half brother, Glen Sloan.

Mrs. Nelson was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Galesburg for over 80 years. She was very devoted to her church, where she was a deaconess, GMG leader, Sunday school teacher, camp counselor, and member of the Shining Light circle and  Hilltoppers. She attended Jefferson Street Christian Church while living in Lincoln.

Funeral Director

She was an excellent cook and seamstress. Her home was always open to friends and family. As a hobby, she decorated and designed scenes in various kinds of eggs.

Memorials may be made to the chaplain's department at The Christian Village Nursing Home or to Jefferson Street Christian Church.
