[January 13, 2012]  Three of Rosemary Zimmerman's great-grandchildren stopped by Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital recently with two large bags filled with stuffed animals.

HardwareThey presented the donation as part of Rosemary Cares, a project in honor of a woman who devoted many years of her life to volunteer service. Zimmerman died May 8, 2007, at ALMH.

The project was begun in her honor to help replenish the supply of stuffed animals available to comfort young patients who come to the hospital for treatment or hospitalization.

"We wanted to do something we thought would be special to her, and little children were special to her," said Linda Barrick, Zimmerman's daughter-in-law. "She was a really wonderful woman and so well-known in the community."

Zimmerman was active with the Logan County March of Dimes, Salvation Army, Illinois Sheriff's Association, Shriners and Lincoln Christian Church.

Granddaughters Laura Kavanaugh and Chris Clementz oversee Rosemary Cares and will accept brand-new stuffed animals for the project. Kavanaugh can be reached at 737-7924 and Clementz at 306-6320.

Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital is located at 200 Stahlhut Drive, just off Lincoln Parkway. It is affiliated with Memorial Health System, based in Springfield.
