 Scandrett did not go
into exact detail, but he impressed upon the board how important it is
going to be for the teaching staff to develop curriculum that will
properly prepare students and meet the updated common core
standards."The new standards are clearer, but also more demanding
and more challenging, and teachers will need to instruct students in such
a way as to meet those challenges," Scandrett said.
Scandrett is
retiring after this school year and is in the process of preparing
the teaching staff for the upcoming changes coming from the state
level.
Mrs. Schweizer gave a presentation
on the first-grade students' service learning project. Students are
practicing their writing skills and learning to write about their
everyday activities by writing letters to troops in Afghanistan. The
class is also collecting and sending personal items.
The board approved the school
calendar for 2012-2013 and adjourned to executive session. No action
was taken in the session.
The board has interviewed four
candidates for the superintendent's position and will inform
district residents when a decision is made.
