[July 07, 2012]  BEMENT -- A popular annual event in Piatt County turns a quarter of a century old this year.

The 25th annual Heritage Sunday at Bryant Cottage State Historic Site in Bement is this Sunday from 4 to 6:30 p.m. "As Long as These Feet Can Carry Me Forward" is the theme of this year's event, which features an afternoon of music, activities and experiences of life during the Civil War.

The day will include period music by High Cotton. Volunteers from Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site in Lerna will present living history interpretation from the 1860s as they gather to knit socks for and to share news of brothers, husbands and sons recently mustered into the Union army.

An ice cream social will conclude the day's activities. The event will be on the Bryant Cottage lawn, and visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
